We’re proud to announce the launch of the APPG on Responsible Credit, bringing together Parliament and the credit industry to advance fair, sustainable financial practices.

On Wednesday, our CEO Luke Broadhurst and I had the privilege of heading to the Houses of Parliament to finalise the establishment of the newly formed All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Responsible Credit, for which Credit Strategy is proud to serve as the Secretariat.

The group will be chaired by Lee Pitcher MP, with John Grady MP, Clive Jones MP, and Baroness Evans of Bowes appointed as Officers. Once the official appointments were confirmed, we began shaping the APPG’s initial focus areas and agenda - setting the foundation for a meaningful dialogue between policymakers and the credit industry.

The APPG will provide a formal platform for collaboration between Parliament and the credit sector on some of the most pressing issues affecting consumers, lenders, and the wider economy. With the aim of striking the delicate balance, between enabling both safe and responsible lending and borrowing, as well as ensuring proportionate protection for consumers.

Early focus areas under consideration are:

  • Consumer redress and the future of the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS)
  • Consumer dispute resolution and reform of the Consumer Credit Act (CCA)
  • The evolving role of credit information and credit reference agencies (CRAs)
  • Fraud prevention, anti–money laundering (AML) measures, and responsible lending

This marks the beginning of an important journey - one that will help shape the future of responsible credit in the UK. As Secretariat, Credit Strategy will facilitate engagement across our membership and wider community, ensuring the industry’s voice is heard at the highest levels of government. We’d love to invite you to be part of this conversation.

If you’re interested in learning more about how you or your organisation can get involved in the APPG’s work, please get in touch with us by emailing here.
