Credit 500 2020 revealed

The new Credit 500, an index of the most influential people in consumer and commercial credit, has been announced by Credit Strategy.

Share on LinkedInShare on Twitter

The Credit 500 recognises the stature its members hold within the credit profession, and as such, Credit Strategy offers those named in the index a range of member benefits, including invitations to our events.

The index champions the 500 business leaders from across the credit profession who make a measurable difference in their respective fields. The people who make up the index are those who perform roles in several key areas; prudential and credit risk, collections and recoveries, lending, lobbying and compliance.

During this time of unprecedented upheaval as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak, Credit Strategy will enable the Credit 500 to engage as a community while they work remotely and operate contingency plans during the lockdown. This means there will be more articles authored by Credit 500 members and webinars for the Credit 500 and the wider credit community. Credit Strategy is also exploring virtual round tables and running podcasts where participants can dial in.

Credit Strategy is also asking our members to help compile a major report on industry responses to the Covid-19 outbreak. This will result in a special report on how firms are ensuring business continuity at a time of crisis. As Credit 500 members, we’d love to hear how your business is adapting.

Please email cfuller@shardfinancialmedia.com and mlegouais@shardfinancialmedia.com if you’d like to share your story.

Find out below about your multiple benefits and how to claim them. To see the Credit 500 2020 in full, you can download it here, or use our search function to look up Credit 500 members by name. Remember to be specific with the names you search for and you can also search by job title.

The methodology

There are many elements and people involved in putting together the Credit 500. It starts with the Credit Strategy team collating information about senior individuals in the credit industry throughout the year.

This information is amassed through interviews, meetings, conference speeches, award entries, press releases on an individual’s activities, conference slide presentations, LinkedIn updates on an individual’s promotion and activities, news articles and lots of other sources of information.

Alongside this information, the team receives nominations from individuals across the industry, which detail those individuals’ achievements and influence, which helps to inform and determine their inclusion.

Membership groups

The Credit 500 indexes individuals via a series of membership groups, which relate to factors such as their job role and responsibilities, the sector they operate in, lobbying and industry representation and whether they work in a consumer or commercial credit role.

These groups have been created so that innovators, influencers and best practice leaders will receive recognition from their peers, by being part of a smaller, select band of pioneers.

Each membership group of the Credit 500 has its own criteria for inclusion. For example, in the Consumer Credit group of the Credit 500, the criteria includes:

  • Ultimate or senior responsibility and oversight for credit risk policy (particularly with regard to SME and consumer lending);
  • Senior or ultimate responsibility for conduct and compliance risk;
  • Influence on the collections and recoveries function, through involvement in setting risk appetite, forbearance policies and arrears treatment;
  • More direct senior or ultimate responsibility for collections and recoveries.

Once each membership group of the Credit 500 is in the final stages of research, individuals from a set of major creditors and trade bodies are consulted, to ensure the right people with the right influence made the final cut.

Annual update

The Credit 500 is updated annually, every March, to ensure the index remains a current and accurate reflection of the most notable personalities. Those who are entered into the Credit 500 will also be recognised in a Hall of Fame, preserving their recognition.
