She joined the team at Gregory Pennington in September 1993 and went on to become director of corporate relations before she left her position in September 2017. She was also director of external relations at the Debt Managers Standards Association.

In her roles, she represented the industry with creditors, regulators, MPs and other stakeholders.

Her team at Gregory Pennington said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Melanie’s family – in particular with her beloved children, Georgia and Tristan.”

A friend of Melanie, and money and debt adviser, David Philpott, said: “Melanie was very popular throughout the debt management sector and highly respected for her technical knowledge, her commitment to always put the needs of the customer first and for her engaging personality. She will be very much missed."
