Both TSB and HSBC have become the latest banks to be hit by IT glitches.
Editor at Credit Strategy. Previously held roles at Accountancy Age, Accountancy Daily and the Leicester Mercury.
TSB customers attempting to use its smartphone app and internet banking have experienced difficulties logging in, while HSBC said around half its customers were having trouble connecting.
The outages are the latest in a string of IT issues to affect consumer banking this year. TSB in particular, suffered a lengthy and high-profile meltdown when it attempted to transfer its customer data from its old IT system to a new one.
Almost two million TSB customers lost access to online banking services after the introduction of its Proteo4UK system in April, ultimately costing chief executive Paul Pester his job this month.
Last week, Royal Bank of Scotland, NatWest and Ulster Bank were all hit by online banking glitches, with customers locked out of their online banking services for five hours.
On its latest outage, TSB said in a tweet: "We’re aware of an issue affecting some of our customers when they are using our mobile app and Internet Banking this morning. We are working hard to fix these issues and will update again as soon as we can."
Customers are, however, able to use their cards as normal.
