Credit Strategy’s judging process for the Women in Credit Awards 2020 is now complete, ahead of what promises to be the biggest and brightest ceremony yet.
Editor at Credit Strategy. Previously held roles at Accountancy Age, Accountancy Daily and the Leicester Mercury.
Judges from across credit and professional services met at Pollen Street Capital’s offices in Mayfair to consider the record number of entries to the Women in Credit Awards, as well as to share knowledge and experiences.
Highlights included discussion of the importance of diversity in the production of automated – and particularly artificial intelligence – systems, which are still largely designed and constructed by male-dominated teams and can lead to unconscious bias in the final product’s processes and outcomes.
Judges also shared alarming experiences of gender discrimination they have faced, including several who had promotions withdrawn when returning from maternity leave.
These experiences bear out the responses Credit Strategy received to a major survey it carried out, in which we heard the experience for women in the industry can be “gruelling” and can often lead to them not feeling valued in the workplace.
Taking place at the Leonardo Royal Hotel, Tower Bridge, London on March 19 as part of the Credit Week Gala Dinner, the third annual Women in Credit Awards is close to selling out, with only two tables and seven more individual seats left. To avoid disappointment, book your place now by visiting the Women in Credit Awards website.
Comedian Suzi Ruffell will be hosting the awards, which will see 29 winners named and the Credit 500 for 2020 revealed.
Ruffell’s innovative style captivates audiences with her engrossing tales of social ineptitude. Lauded as ‘a real stand up gem’ by The Guardian, this young, independent woman celebrates her working class roots with a sideways look at the world.
Regarded as one of best up-and-coming acts, she was nominated for the Best Breakthrough Act at The Chortle Awards. Fast establishing herself on the live circuit, Ruffell has shared the stage with Alan Carr, Josh Widdicombe, Kevin Bridges and Romesh Ranganathan.
