A once thriving country sitting on the world’s largest oil reserves, Venezuela has suffered a precipitous decline over the past two decades. There are drastic shortages of both food and medicines and diseases such as diphtheria and malaria are re-emerging. State hospitals, in particular, are suffering because of lack of maintenance and scarcity of medical supplies.
Healing Venezuela provide hospitals in Venezuela with vital health-related products and they currently send consignments every 2 weeks. The medical supplies they send are used in the diagnosis and treatment of a range of diseases and conditions including malaria, dengue, chikungunya and other tropical diseases. Healing Venezuela are currently working with the Royal College of Surgeon to send a mission to the country to deliver basic surgical skill training. With another NGO, the International Association for Human Values (IAHV), Healing Venezuela will start soon a mental health programme in a large hospital.
