The biggest challenge is shifting mindsets – both the self-limiting beliefs that individuals from under-represented groups may hold, and the workplace cultures where biases can still persist. Policies and controls provide a framework, but they are not enough on their own to move from intent to action.
These challenges persist because meaningful change requires sustained focus and accountability, not just policies. It comes from everyday actions – challenging assumptions at every decision point and role-modelling inclusive behaviours consistently.
Male leaders are critical as sponsors and allies. Their advocacy helps position inclusion as a shared business priority rather than a women’s issue. Attending this event offers valuable perspective and practical ideas for how they can support progress with confidence.
Build your network early and seek out new opportunities. Your career is shaped as much by relationships and visibility as by technical skill. Don’t wait until you feel “ready”, as growth comes from taking on challenges that feel slightly beyond your comfort zone. Be curious, stay authentic, and find mentors who will both support and stretch you. Over time, confidence will follow.
“Be more like Dave,” said one of my mentors. It was a reminder to challenge my own thinking patterns and consider different approaches, to ask myself, “what would someone else do in this situation?” It taught me to recognise and overcome self-doubt, which is often what holds us back most.
Alongside reconnecting with industry peers and meeting new faces, I am looking forward to the honest conversations. My hope is that attendees leave energised and with practical actions to drive tangible change in their own organisations.
